Meeting Minutes
May 13, 2006, 10:10 a.m.-12 noon

  1. The meeting was called to order at 10:10 a.m..

  2. The Serenity Prayer was said.

  3. The purpose of the meeting is to foster the unity of the group, conduct business, and exchange information.

  4. Introductions: Catherine C. (Thursday, Berkeley); Ed T. (Monday, Oakland); and Judy D. (Saturday San Francisco).

  5. Treasurer's Report: Ed T.

The Intergroup received generous donations from the following groups: Wednesday Alameda, Saturday San Francisco, Friday Oakland and Saturday Palo Alto. The Intergroup's balance after expenses stands at $351.36.

The Delegate Fund received generous donations from Tuesday Santa Rosa, Monday Petaluma, Thursday Albany, Monday Oakland, Friday Oakland and Saturday Palo Alto. In addition, Terry of Petaluma, who contributes so much to Nicotine Anonymous of his time and energy, gave a personal donation to the fund. $800 of the delegate fund was used to subsidize our four delegates. The remaining $53.17 will carry over to next years fund. It was also decided that delegate fund envelopes will be sent out next year. This money will be used both to help folks from Northern California to come to the conference and to serve as a start for the 2008 fund.

A number of people have wondered why we are still paying for checking. Ed explained that, because this account was set up when less stringent banking rules were in effect, we are not required to have a member guarantee the account.

  6. Committee Reports
    1. Outreach: Catherine

This is the news from the Outreach Committee:

      • The Committee's goal is to help individual groups improve their outreach effort. The San Francisco meetings have asked for the committee's assistance. So for the next six months the committee will concentrate on helping the San Francisco meetings with their outreach efforts. As part of this effort, Wes (Berkeley) has been leafleting in San Francisco.

      • Amanda (Alameda) is investigating a more sophisticated phone answering system for the hotlines. This would allow callers to press different buttons to get specific types of information.

      • Catherine is going to work with the 408 hotline folks to find out how we might work the Web site's address into the hotline message.

In the gene real discussion about the Outreach Committee news, it was suggested that the committee contact San Francisco hospitals as part of their outreach effort.

    2. World Services Conference 2006: Catherine and Ed

Catherine and Ed reported the following about the conference:

      • A Year of Miracles a book of daily meditations has been approved.

      • The 12 Traditions materials that have been on the Web have been approved and will be published.

      • Proposals to amend the bylaws have been sent to last year's delegates.

      • 7 Minutes has a new editor.

      • World Services would like comments from the membership on a variety of issues. Interested members can find more information on this at the World Services web site.

      • The new officers are Dan P.(Chicago) chair; Ardith(Charlotte) secretary; Willie S. (L.A.) treasurer. Ed has been elected to the board to fill a one year opening.

      • The 2008 Conference will most likely take place on Long Island.

The Nica Norcal delegates have given reports on the World Services Conference to all meetings that contributed to the delegates fund except Palo Alto. Plans are being made to have one or more delegates report to the Palo Alto meeting.

There was a bit of a mix-up and the delegates were not able to bring up the concerns of the Intergroup at the conference. So the Intergroup secretary will be writing to the chair-elect on these topics:

      • Pen pals. We've had some complaints that people seeking pen pals receive no response. It would be helpful to understand how the board is dealing with this situation.

      • Order status. Members are experiencing difficulty finding out the status of their orders. What can be done to improve this situation.

      • New Meeting Information. People are having trouble getting new meeting information. Would it be possible for the person in charge of providing new meeting information to talk with some of our members who are familiar with the problem.

      Catherine reported the following:

      • The first meeting of the WSC2007 committee will be held 5/13/06.

      • The committee is looking at various possibilities for an after-conference activity.
