Ed was asked what the Intergroup's expenses were for a year. Ed said he had done a presentation to the Intergroup on this topic a few months ago. At that time he calculated and presented a chart showing Intergroup's expenses for the last few years. This chart showed that a year's expenses runs to about $1,000. It also showed that that in a typical year the Intergroup collects about $1,000.

      • The following were notes of interest for the last three months:
        • About 25 visitors viewed the site using a translator.
        • The most popular pages were meetings, faqs and literature.
        • Our site is number two (after World Services) when doing a search for "Nicotine Anonymous" on Google and Yahoo. Using this phrase on the search engines, people found us over 350 times.
        • 75 e-greeting cards were sent. Catherine's cards (thanks Catherine) were sent most often.
      • In summary:
        • Since October of 2004, we've had more than 10,910 visitors and 19,700 pages have been viewed.
        • We are receiving a stable and reasonable amount of traffic considering we do not advertise.
        • FAQ's and literature pages are very popular indicating we are educating the public about Nicotine Anonymous.
        • Greeting cards are being sent indicating we are helping pass on "warm fuzzies" to the NicA community.
    2. World Services: Catherine

Catherine's term on the World Services board has ended. Due to other NicA commitments, she's going to be hanging up her spurs as our World Services reporter. (Thanks for all your work Catherine!)

    3. Meeting List Coordinators: John A. and Joyce

John A. and Joyce could not make the meeting. They sent word that the new meeting lists would be mailed by the end of July.

    4. Outreach: Wes
      • The Outreach Committee met on 6/11/2005. There were eight attendees from five or six meetings. The group drafted a working mission statement and a list of goals. They brainstormed a list of projects to develop and chose one to focus on. The focus project will be to put together a database of stop smoking programs in Northern California. The committee will meet again on 7/17. (Secretary's note: The committee will meet again on 8/27. Everyone is welcome. For more information, contact Wes.)
      • Wes and Catherine met with representatives of the state corrections department. The state prisons are now smoke free and the department wants to help inmates who are addicted to nicotine. The department plans to purchase literature from World Services. They would also like to have volunteers come into the prisons to conduct NicA meetings.

Wes has volunteered to conduct meetings at San Quentin but would like someone else to accompany him. Wes and Catherine have been trying to get in touch with Sacramento meetings to set up visits to Folsom. Ed suggested that we need to coordinate with the Southern California Intergroup and the San Diego Intergroup to see if they can help set up meetings at prisons in their area.

      • Better networking with the NicA groups was discussed. The idea of a phone tree was discussed. The idea of a newsletter to be sent to the groups to be distributed to members was discussed.

The following motion was moved, seconded and passed: Judy and Wes will put together a list of email (and where that is not available regular mail) contacts for each meeting. Judy will produce a sample set of announcements to be sent to each meeting using this list.

Kudos to the following for their outreach work:

        • Ani M. was a guest speaker at the City of Berkeley's smoking cessation program. She will also be joining this program's next former smokers panel.
        • Catherine and Wes for meeting with state corrections officials and getting the ball rolling on our prison outreach effort.
        • Catherine visited the new Alameda Wednesday night meeting to let them know about Intergroup.
        • Keith for taking over our outreach to St. Helena and visiting there in June.
        • San Rafael for their continuing outreach to Kaiser.
    5. Chips: Doug

Doug continues to get and fill orders for chips. The group voted to give Doug $71.83. This will pay for the chip container and provide a revolving fund for chip purchases. (Many thanks to Doug for coming to the meeting and doing all this work despite a bad back. Hope you're feeling better soon Doug.)

    6. Retreat: Catherine and Wes

This year's retreat will be held at Mount Madonna in the Santa Cruz mountains. The retreat will be August 19-21. Catherine will make a reservation for 15 people. (Late news: We still have space for four more people. Contact Catherine for details.)

    7. World Services Conference: Catherine and Ed
      • Ed and Catherine contacted a large number of possible venues for bids. (Thanks for all your work Ed and Catherine!) The best bids they got were from the Radison San Jose and the Clarion in Oakland. The Radison offered $139 a night for two nights with 5 meals and snacks included. The Clarion offered $81 a night. They also expect to get a bid from the Berkeley City Club.
      • There was a discussion of the best site where the pros and cons of each was discussed.
      • It was decided that the committee will do site visits to the Radison and Clarion and possibly the Berkeley City Club. The committee will then take its recommendation to the World Services Board.
  10. New Business:
    • Hot Line. San Rafael asked Sonoma County to take over the hotline. Sonoma County has accepted.
    • Delegate Fund. The delegate fund will be disbursed in the following manner: Ed and Keith (our official delegates) will each get $100 more to cover their expenses. The remaining $295 will be used to start a delegate fund for next year.

Delegates are trying to report back to all meetings that contributed to the delegate fund. Ed visited the Alameda meeting to report to them. Keith visited the Petaluma, Santa Rosa and San Rafael meetings. Delegates would like to visit the Hayward meeting to round out their visits.

TBA, Dec. 6th.
  12. The meeting was closed at 12:00 p.m.. The Unity Prayer was said.
