Meeting Minutes
November 12, 2005, 10 a.m.-12 noon
(Amended 02-06)
- The meeting was called to order at 10:10 a.m. by John L.
- The Serenity Prayer was said.
- The purpose of the meeting is to foster the unity of the group, conduct business, and exchange information.
- Introductions: John L. (Walnut Creek/Rockridge, Oakland); Catherine C. (Monday Rockridge, Oakland); Ed T. (Monday Rockridge, Oakland); Joyce D. (Grass Valley); Keith M. (Santa Rosa); Judy D. (San Francisco); Amanda (Wednesday Alameda); Glynn B. (San Francisco); and Deborah S. (San Francisco) were present.
- Timekeeper: Catherine
- The 12 Traditions were read.
- The minutes of the September meeting were read. A motion to accept the minutes was moved, seconded and passed.
- Treasurer's Report: Ed
Ed reported the following: Intergroup received generous donations from the Friday Oakland meeting of $75.00. The regular fund balance is $464.49. The delegates fund balance is $295.95.
- Committee Reports:
- Meeting List Coordinators:
John A. and Joyce.
Joyce announced that an updated meeting list was ready and would be sent out the day of the meeting.
The group had a wide ranging discussion about the meeting list. Here is what was concluded:
- The meeting list will be printed out and sent to all of the Northern California NicA meetings in January, May and September.
- Joyce will keep the meeting list up-to-date. Each time she updates the list she will send it to John A. John A. will create a pdf version of the list and post it on the Web.
- John A. will continue to keep the Web (HTML) meeting list up-to-date. This list will include the World Services meeting number.
- Joyce will keep the meeting contact list up-to-date. She will start with the list Wes compiled and update it as needed. She'll supply this list to Judy for use in sending out the newsletter.
- Web Site Coordinator: John A.
John A. volunteered to continue to be the Web Servant. This offer was gratefully accepted by the group. John A. offered to both put the newsletter on the Web site and to help set up software which does newsletter management. (John A. and Judy agreed after the meeting to work together to get this going.)
- Outreach: Catherine
Catherine reported the following:
- Wes created a list of programs that help people to stop using nicotine.
- Melissa worked with the committee to create a letter to go out to the these programs. This letter introduces Nicotine Anonymous. It tells the groups how they can get more information on NicA. And it lets them know that NicA speakers are available to talk to the people in their program.
- Catherine applied for a World Services grant to pay for this letter and Nicotine Anonymous pamphlets to go out to these groups.
- This mailing will go out on 11/19/2005.
- The committee will make follow up calls to these groups to make sure they got the letter and to answer any questions they may have.
- Chips: Amanda
Amanda reported that seven meetings purchased chips. She also reported that there is $28 in the chip fund.
- Retreat: Amanda
The first retreat committee meeting will be held on 11/12/2005. The second will be held on 12/10/2005. Everyone is welcome to attend.
- World Services 2007 Conference: Catherine
- The hotel where we had planned to have the conference went out of business.
- Ani and Catherine have sent out a new request for proposals to a number of hotels.
- Anyone with ideas for a conference venue please contact Ani or Catherine.
- New Business:
- Bringing NicA to Institutions. "Basic Working Guidelines for Bringing Nicotine Anonymous Meetings into Hospitals and Institutions" and "Working With Others Who Still Suffer" were referred to the Outreach Committee for further work with a request that before editing is done the original in the AA Big Book should be read.
- Newsletter. Reports on the newsletter will be listed on the agenda as a committee report.
- Sacramento Literature Depot. The Sacramento meetings are planning to have a literature depot.
- Announcements. All announcements will appear in the first issue of the newsletter.
- Speakers Bureau. A discussion about having an Intergroup speakers bureau should be placed on the next meeting agenda.
- Announcements.
- Chips. Chips are available for purchase in small quantities at the Intergroup meeting. If you would like us to order chips for your meeting, please see Amanda.
- St. Helena Residential Nicotine Cessation Program. Starting in January NicA volunteers will again be speaking at the St. Helena residential nicotine cessation program. If you would be willing to speak, please contact Keith.
- Service Opportunities. Northern California Intergroup is looking for volunteers to do outreach, participate in Intergroup, take on service positions, etc. Contact John L. or any Intergroup member for more information.
- Book of Daily Meditations. People are being sought to help contribute to a Book of Daily Meditations for the fellowship. Contact Ani for details. Her phone number is on the Intergroup meeting minutes. Or write to Kate W., coordinator at DailyMeditations@nicotine-anonymous.org
- Literature. World Services reminds us that literature should be bought from WSO, not copied. Literature sales are the primary revenue source for World Services.
- The meeting was closed at 12:00 p.m.. The Unity Prayer was said.
The next Intergroup meeting is January 14, 2005 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon with fellowship afterward at Mandana Community Recovery Center, 3989 Howe Street (enter on 40th), Oakland in the Serenity Room, first floor of the Old House. All NicA members are encouraged to attend.
