Meeting Minutes

May 8, 2008, 1:00 pm

Trinity Lutheran Church, 333 Woodland, San Rafael


Attending: Harry, Ed, Keith, David (Santa Rosa), Crystal (San Rafael), Randy (San Rafael)


  • Opened the meeting with the Serenity Prayer 1:00pm

  • Minutes of March meeting: Approved

  • Meeting Reports by Intergroup Representatives

  • Officer Reports

    • Chair: Harry still getting lots of spam, has asked Mike B. for help

    • Treasurer: Ed T.

      • May balance of General Fund: $560.36

      • Delegate fund: $2246.24

      • Chip fund: -97.02 (a debit at this point due to a recent order)


    • Chips: Keith M.

      • We have a request for 30-year chip. Longer than NicA has existed. Need group conscience to decide if we provide chips for people who did not originally quit as a member of NicA.

        • Motion: Intergroup will not stock chips for an amount of time before NicA started in 1982. Passed. An order will be placed that will include high year chips.

        • Motion: A suggestion will be sent to all meetings that a member's birthday begins when they start their recovery in the program of NicA. Passed.


    • Meeting List: Michael M.

      • Reminder that the May meeting list needs to go out with the words changed from "hotline" to "area contact" and the 707 # with Nancy's name changed to Keith 707-528-6213

      • Livermore meeting changed from Monday to Thursday

      • Santa Rosa moved to Unitarian Church, 547 Mendocino Ave, SR

      • Hanford and Sonora both still wish to be on our meeting schedule

      • Yreka and Arcata still need to be contacted to see if they want to be included.

      • Still trying to catch up on changes that need to be made

      • Harry needs for him block the large amount of spam that is getting through

  • Old Business

    • 2008 Retreat

      • Starts at noon Saturday 6/21 with potluck lunch and continues until dusk.

      • Workshop to write articles, poems, limericks, jokes for "Seven Minutes."

      • Camping is still available at another park (Olema Ranch) - contact Catherine for information on availability


    • Conference Report: May 2-4 in New York

      • Delegates were Keith, Vicky, Mike B. with Ed as WSO officer-at-large

      • New book "A Year of Miracles" is out and ready to be ordered

      • There is significant representation for the online group "Voices of Nicotine Recovery" (VONR)

      • Discussion of possible future amendment to change definition of Intergroup to make it more inclusive of online communities

      • Site for 2010 conference is Phoenix

      • New Chair elect: Jan S. (Philly area); Treasurer elect: Scott B. (Maryland); Secretary elect: Jennie (So Cal); Ed T. will serve another 2 years as officer-at-large to fill vacancies

      • New Intergroup has been created: Mid-Atlantic which includes Maryland, Delaware, and D.C.

      • Minutes of the Conference and the quarterly officers' meeting will be sent out to all Delegates for the coming year

      • Vicky chaired the Outreach workshop: They are working on public service announcements (PSAs) and would like to have input on where to air them

      • 118 attended, 57 of whom were delegates


    • Disbursement of Conference funds to delegates

      • Motion: Divide the fund of $2246.24 by 5, giving each delegate $450 each. The 3 who attended are free to accept or decline this amount. Also $100 goes to Ed to cover expenses not covered by World Services. Motion passed.


  • New Business

    • Election of Officers

      • Mike B and Mike Mc need to be contacted to see if they will continue as web servant and meeting list coordinator

      • Melissa is willing to continue as Secretary

      • Ed is willing to continue as Treasurer

      • Keith is willing to be Chair

All were elected by acclamation (no voting was necessary, as everyone approved).

      • Harry will help Joyce with By-laws


  • Intergroup meetings will continue to rotate meeting locations every other month. September will be in Santa Rosa area.


  • Meeting was adjourned 2:45 pm.


  • Next meeting is at Mandana House, July 19, 10am -12pm (a week later than usual to avoid a conflict with the WSO Officers' meeting).
